comparison

So for more visual representation instead of me trying to explain it
on a larger scale I think I like the pastel more

Color palettes

I'm deciding between a color palette that based more towards my first inspiration and a more pastel-y colors. For the creature that will be sad with his ice cream I want there to be a really stark color difference to make it really stand out and I think that might be more well executed, however I don't want the lighter colors to just get lost in the background/projection.
So I'm still playing with both of them.

Why?

In thinking about the "why" for my project, I decided it should portray the idea that people want what they can't have. so instead of having the one creature happy with his ice cream, he will still be upset while everyone else around looking at him will be envious. I hope to embrace this idea with emotional facial expressions and the use of color.
Sketches and color palettes coming soon!

Project 1-Sketches

I was helping my boyfriend make a logo for his web design class and came up with this and was pretty proud of the results using illustrator.

UPDATE: so when creating this logo I learned it wasn't as hard as I thought, using basic shapes can get you pretty far. Also the use of color in something small is important because you want it to still read across what its trying to portray. I hope to bring these lessons into my upcoming project the best I can.

So turns out I might go in a different direction.
I decided I wanted to create a scene of like things, much like the first example posted on the main blog
here
instead of the collage, I'm thinking I'm going to use illustrator to create my vision
here are a few very rough sketches and general studies for the project

That last image is basically the very very rough sketch of the general layout I'm trying to go for, a playful light scene where everyone and thing will be staring at the ice cream in hopes to get their own
I think my color palette, once decided, will really help tie everything together.

Project 1--inspiration

So I spent my weekend at Ohayocon, the anime convention up at the convention center here in Columbus, and when I was up in artist ally I saw this

 By Genkigoth Studios, Dee Jay
Which is a collage to make up this woman, and that is what has inspired me to create creatures or people, not sure yet, of a collage of recycled materials, like we all essentially are.

My second inspiration was at a table in the anime convention was a book of Italian-pop surrealism and in doing research in that, I found the artist Paolo Petrangeli and was particularly drawn to this image

I hope to pull from both these inspirations to create my own collaged people/things.
Sketches coming soon!

Entering CCAD

I have worked very hard and have had many real-world experiences in advancing my photography skills as I helped my dad on many photo shoots from senior portraits to weddings. I also volunteer at the Animal Protective League in taking pictures of the animals for the website to be adopted. During High school myt senior year I did an independent study of my own photography course doing projects such as making an alphabet book a calender etc. and I also did an internship with Christopher Norris my last quarter, he is a well known wedding and portrait photographer in the Cleveland area. This is the link to my entry portfolio into CCAD
Sarah Freelan

I have loved my first semester here at CCAD through my foundation courses, although challenging as I have no training in drawing and painting, but here is my digication page from my first semester.

Digication

I am looking forward to a great second semester of expanding opportunities and valuable lessons helping me grow as an artist.
